Dee: “Note these two orders of Angels.”
Dee notes two orders of Angels, As Uriel says these governing the lights of the 7 Circles of Heaven, i.e. planetary (as their names indicate, being the names or variations on the names of the 7 planets in Hebrew), note “these” cannot include the speaker above because it is a demonstrative pronoun. And “us” which continually stand before the presence of God, forever, which are the Archangels (derived from the Septagon) with which he explicitly identifies himself. The Throne of God is in Briah, and the Archangels are associated with Briah, in Neoplatonic terms because though not the planetary lights themselves, they do rule over the planets through the medium of time, hence their authority in the Government of Hours. In all traditional forms of this JudeoChristian metaphysic (Enochic, Qabalisitic, and Apocalyptic) it is some permutation of the Archangels that represent the Briatic divinity. The Gnostics argue that this is because they stand not before the throne of the true God but that of the Demiurge or craftsman.
Briah is the Platonic realm of forms, as Halevi states: "Heaven" proper, it is the first separation from the Divine, and "location" of the Throne of God and archangels. The Throne of God is known to be here, by the Archangels who are stationed about it. It is from the word meaning to create, fashion, form, shape, and so it is the natural place of Plato's Craftsman god, in Gk. the Demiurge. It is through time that creation occurs. The seven days of the week, i.e. of Creation are assigned not by their planetary order (Thursday doesn't follow after Saturday) but by the rulership of hours that begin the day and these are magikally the function of the Archangels (cf. the Heptameron of Petri di Abano and The Fourth Book of Agrippa)
Yezirah is usually translated “formation” but it is that of a maker as opposed to a creator, but is still closely associated with Briah. It is the realm of the heavenly choirs, after the liturgical choir of Levites who served in the Temple, and related thereby to the music of the spheres, a purely planetary matter (cf. Ficino and Holtz). It is also literally “purpose,” or “impulse” symbolizing that the motion of the planets is both purposeful, their regular sidereal periods over time, and “impulsive,” in their occasional retrograde wandering.
Although received and derived in a cryptic way, the foundations of the matrix are the 7 angels named for the planets (Sabathiel is quite literally the Angel of Saturn). They are angels and not archangels and so must be hierarchically below the Archangels. It is as Halevi states: “the abode of the "lower angels." Yetzirah is below Briah. They represent the world of Souls in Neoplatonic terms, as the planets are said to govern the souls of men; hence the importance of the movement of the planets in natal astrology. They descend from the outermost visible planet, Saturn, to the innermost Luna, below which is the sublunary world of the Neoplatonists. In the Sigillum this is the case, about the Calvary Cross at the center, Saturn is outermost, the planetary angels spiral inward in clockwise fashion and the angel of the Moon is arrayed about the inmost cross. This Cross is not the Throne of God, which is to my knowledge never portrayed in this way. It is the Cross of the Crucifixion, which is the epitome of God on earth, Jesus subject to the ultimate limitation of the non eternal world of the elements, Death. Likewise is the Cross on the reverse elemental and attributed to Earth, AGLA is an acronymic godname attributed to Earth and represents in this case Jerusalem, the Center of the Earth, upon which the Crucifixion took place. Similarly the Watchtowers are a form of the Jerusalem Cross, symbolizing the extension of the Gospel to the 4 corners of the Earth, which is why it is the base. Halevi states that Assiah is “Physical man and the Earth.” Assiah (which enters our language from its Semitic roots as Asia) the material universe in which we live, literally a support from a root meaning something made. The world created by God.
